Pantry challenge continued

I am out of vegetables. I cannot come up with a normal meal. I think I must go shopping...

We have been eating kind of strange combinations of food. I think the heat is really getting to me. All I can really think of eating right now is watermelon. Seriously.

So tonight for supper, I made red lentils - cooked with sauteed onion, garlic, and green pepper. Came out great. But no one felt like eating lots of it. I also served potatoes with sauteed garlic, gevinah levanah, and a little bit of shredded gilboa cheese. I called them Cheesy Garlic Potatoes. My boys really like Cheesy Garlic Potatoes... We also had the leftover vegetable soup (pareve) from Friday night. It was actually the leftover soup from Pesach that I found at the back of the freezer on Friday.
And of course, watermelon.

  1. I thnk even during a storecupboard amnesty you have to be allowed to buy fruit, veg and dairy products. Are you seeing the end of the dry groveries and frozen stuff yet?

    1. I still have plenty of pasta, actually. Although I don't mind that. What I minded were all the containers in the freezer, and those are dwindling. I think I have room now to start cooking for the chagim! Tomorrow I will go grocery shopping. I just wish I had a cheap produce store here in town...

  2. I agree - because if you do not have these things it makes you eat really cruddy other stuff... I am buying less fruit and veg more often because it was going bad too quickly - but I do not need to make a special trip since the store is near the post office where I go every day... in fact it is so far from where I park the car, I can't buy too much at a time... too heavy.

    1. You're lucky to have that cheap produce store Janice! I wish it was close to me! ;-)
I actually don't think any of the things I mentioned that I served were "cruddy" - I really don't have junk food in the house. Ok, a couple packs of single serve frozen pizza for 13 yr old starving boy emergencies. Otherwise, it's really hard to find anything junky here. So we're eating ok, I just don't have much left to work with now! And that, after all, was the goal...

    1. Yes, don't worry it was in the freezer the whole time. I found it on Friday and decided it was TIME for us to finish it off. It was good, wasn't it?

  4. Great idea - cheesy garlic potatoes! Gotta try that one! (although my biggest potato fan is the one allergic to dairy!)
