Shabbat Menu!

Shabbat is coming! I've got to free up my Friday, so I'm cooking now.

We'll be having:

Spelt and Oat Bran Challot from the freezer

Spicy Roast Chicken

Baked Tofu for the vegetarian

Potato Kugel

Apple Crisp

Roasted Kishuim (Summer Squash)

Roasted Root Vegetables

Vegan Cholent

Salads - these will totally depend on what I manage to pick up in the morning. We are out of veggies except for carrots and cabbage at the moment!

For Seudah Shlishit: Egg Salad, Raw Veggies with Chumus, Crackers, and whatever random other foods I throw together!

For dessert, we'll have fruit this week! And maybe some vegan ice cream, too. Depends if I have time to whip it up.

I'm finding it a little harder to cook now that the weather has been cranked up a notch, so I'm still fumbling around here, trying to come up with a summer menu/cooking method that will keep me AND my crew happy!

Shabbat & Shavuot menu planning

This year, Shavuot falls out on right after Shabbat, so we have a 2-day "chag" of sorts.

I am not planning to cook on Chag - it is way too hot to leave an oven on!

So everything needs to be cooked in advance and either served cold or warmed on a platta.

Here's the plan:

Friday night - we were invited out, but due to my pet allergy, we're providing the table while our guests are bringing the food.

Shabbat lunch, us plus a family of 8:

Homemade Spelt and Oat challot
vegetarian liver
chumus
various salads
Oven fried chicken
Potato Kugel
Corn Bread
Quinoa with black lentils

Shavuot Night:

Homemade Challah
Fruit Soup
Lettuce salad
Roasted vegetables (whatever I get a good deal on)
Cheesy lasagna
Vegan, GF lasagna

Shavuot lunch:

Challah rolls
Salads
Salmon with lemon and herbs (served cold) (note: I got a great deal on salmon at some point and put it in the freezer!)
Broccoli Kugel
Sweet Potato Kugel
Garlic Roasted Potatoes
Fruit Soup

Desserts: Watermelon, other fruit, chocolate - crispy rice squares

Snacks: banana-coconut cake, popcorn, fruit sorbet, ice cream...

Great iHerb specials right now!

Never shopped on iHerb before? Usually, I order from them about once a month. I look out for sales on items I could really use, and am very careful to buy only things that are either REALLY hard to find in Israel, or items that are MUCH less expensive from iHerb (and yes, I take the $4 shipping cost into account) than at local stores.  (click here to see some of the items I buy from iHerb)

If you're a new customer, any of these links will automatically load a $5 coupon into your account, and if you use that together with their Sales and Specials, you can really save big!

Here's a peek at the brands that are 20% off this week:

http://www.iherb.com/specials?rcode=QEJ101

This week, there are a few additional specials, besides the "Brand Sales" - the first one is an extra 20% off selected Now Foods Probiotics!

(This special, along with and the others above, ends Wednesday, June 15th, at 10:00 am Pacific Time. Extra discount will be seen in the shopping cart.)

In addition, for a limited time, use promo code Bath613 in the check-out page for an extra 10% off all bath and beauty products, such as Shampoos, Conditioners, Lotions, Creams.  (This promo code expires Monday, June 13th at 10:00 a. m., Pacific Time, and is good for all current & new customers)

Hope you find this a helpful way to both save money and reduce frustration when you can't find a product locally!
