Hi everyone, it's that time again. The time on a Sunday when I wonder what I should make for supper... and then I realize it's time to make a menu for the week so I don't do this every day! It's so much easier for me to feed my family when my menu is already planned out! That way I can go about my day, and when I need to cook, I just cook! Without having to rummage thru the freezer and pantry and wonder what to make. Instead, I do all that rummaging on Sunday at some point and then I plan out my menu based on what I see I have (or what I plan to buy).
So, here's the plan:
Sunday night: Black Bean and Tomato Soup, Quick Garlic Bread
Monday night: Shabbat Leftovers
Tuesday night: Split Pea Soup, ???
Wednesday night: Steamed or roasted veggies, Macaroni and Cheese
Thursday night: Scrambled eggs, ???
OH MY. I really haven't figured out my menu very well. I guess it will be ok, there are always going to be days when I don't feel inspired to cook, and I guess this is just one of them. It doesn't help that there are hardly any vegetables in the house, I think! If I pick up some vegetables tomorrow, maybe I'll be more inspired and I'll update this menu. (Watch this space for updates!)
And now, I'm off to bake some muffins with those bananas I threw into the fridge before Shabbat so they wouldn't get moldy!

Menu for the Week
It's time to plan out my weekly menu, so I took inventory and we're doing really fine with everything except fresh veggies.
So tomorrow I have to buy whatever vegetables I can find inexpensively!
So here's my tentative food plan:
Sunday night (we had): Red and Black Lentil and Sweet Potato Soup, Pita Pizzas, (Vegan Polenta "Pizza" for me)
Monday Night: Shabbat Leftovers
Tuesday Night (break the fast): Split Pea Soup, Baked Ziti, Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (got a whole lot of grapefruits from a neighbor), Salad
Wednesday Night: Scrambled Eggs, Baked Potatoes, Salad
Thursday Night: All the leftovers from the week
Snacks will be popcorn, apples, carrot sticks, roasted chick peas, muffins from the freezer
Lunches will be Soups and Sandwiches
What's on your menu this week?

Weekly Menu
It's Sunday night, and I'm going to try as hard as I can to figure out this week's food plan.
I'm not feeling very creative though, and I'm finding it hard right now to accommodate everyone's food needs, allergies, and preferences. However, I will give it my best.
Here's the plan:
(There are lots of carrot sticks in the plan, as we got some pretty inexpensively last week!)
Sunday
Lunch: Sandwiches on Homemade Whole Wheat Bread, fruits and vegetables
Supper: Shabbat leftovers
Monday
Lunch: Red Lentil Soup with Peppers and Fennel, Carrot Sticks and other vegetables with techina
Supper: Baked Ziti, Steamed Kishuim
Tuesday
Lunch: Leftover Pasta and Soup, Vegetable Sticks
Supper: Rice, Black Bean Veggie Crumbles with Tomato Sauce, Corn
Wednesday
Lunch: Corn Bread, Rice with sauteed veggies, ??
Supper: Homemade Dinner Rolls, Scrambled eggs, Oven Fries, Carrot Sticks
Thursday
Lunch: anything left from the week and/or sandwiches
Supper: ??? we will have to wait for inspiration!
I plan to bake some muffins, roast some spicy chick peas to crunchy perfection, and pop lots of popcorn for snacks besides fruit
Have you planned your menu? I find when life is busy, planning helps keep things running smoothly.

Menu Plan for the week

Doesn't life always seem to get busy?
I know it's easiest to function when things are busy when there is some sort of plan in place, so here's my menu plan for the week (feeding the family seems to be one of those things I just can't skip):
Sunday
Lunch: Vegetable soup with noodles
Supper: Embellished Shabbat leftovers
Monday
Lunch: Red lentil soup (spiced with onion, garlic, turmeric, ginger, hot pepper, and salt. Yum)
Supper: Grilled cheese sandwiches? cucumbers, carrots, and red peppers
Tuesday
Lunch: Pancakes, veggies
Supper: Baked ziti, salad, steamed kishuim
Wednesday
Lunch: PB&J Sandwiches, veggies
Supper: Tomato soup with rice, tuna patties, salad
Thursday
Lunch: any leftovers from the week
Supper: Vegetable soup, Spaghetti with tomato-vegetable sauce (and cheese for the cheese eaters), salad

I haven't had a chance to plan my weekly menu! I keep getting caught up on the roller coaster ride of life. But I'm planning now, it's better late than never.

Supper - Shabbat leftovers
Monday:
Lunch: Reincarnated Cholent Soup (added tomato paste, lentils, spices, and water to it), sandwiches, avocado
Supper: Pasta, Salad, and some precious asparagus (that I foraged)
Tuesday
Lunch: Vegetable-noodle soup, cucumbers and tomatoes with techina
Supper: Tomato-rice soup, Lentil patties, baked potatoes, whatever vegetables I find
Wednesday

Menu Plan for the week
By now, you all know how I feel about menu plans. Having one is good, even if I don't stick to it perfectly. Not having one means we are always scrambling and we don't eat anything resembling balanced meals. SO -- here's my plan for suppers for this week:
Sunday night -Vegetable Soup, Tuna Patties, Oven-fries
Monday night - Shabbat Leftovers
Tuesday night - Sloppy Sams on Fresh Rolls, Salad, Roasted Root Vegetables
Wednesday night - Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, Tomato soup with rice, carrots and cucumbers
Thursday night - Pasta of some sort, Make your own salad
What about lunches, you ask?
Good question.
I've been having a harder time with lunches lately, and I'm not sure why. Maybe when I say "I'll serve leftovers" I forget that with one teenage boy and one almost teenage boy in the house, there are rarely any substantial leftovers around. So I plan to serve pasta some days, soup other days, and we'll supplement with sandwiches, vegetables, eggs, and fruit. We are well stocked with peanut butter!
The end of the week will likely be a little nutty, as we plan to host yet another kiddush. I'll post my plan for that soon!

Weekly Menu
It's already Monday night and I'm still flying by the seat of my pants/skirt as far as meals go, since I never made a plan. My days are pretty full with all that goes on already, so having a plan is pretty essential if I'm going to a)stick to my budget, b)use the food I have in the house, and c)feed my family relatively balanced meals. I know when I don't make a plan, we end up figuring out less healthy "survival" meals, and often that means when I'm out on a walk I'll pick up pitot or bread, cheese, bourekas, etc even if I had no plans to buy those things that week!
So - in an effort to make tomorrow an easier day, and to save me the panic and "survival shopping", I will plan my menu now:
Sunday - already over, I don't even know what we had (in my defense, half the family had some minor stomach bug and weren't even hungry)
Monday - more of who-knows-what, and Shabbat leftovers for supper
Tuesday:
Lunch: Rice, lentil patties, salad
Supper: Split pea soup, Baked Ziti, steamed kishuim
Wednesday
Lunch: Split pea soup, banana muffins, baked apples
Supper: Felafel
Thursday:
Lunch: all the leftovers from the week
Supper: fresh dinner rolls, sloppy sams, roasted vegetables
How do you stay on top of feeding your family? How many meals do you cook every day?

This week's menu
It's turning into a crazy week for me - there is no hot water in my house still, and my hands are cracked and bleeding from washing vegetables, dishes, and my hands in F-R-E-E-Z-I-N-G cold water! I truly hope I can get the plumber to come here tomorrow and figure out the extent of our problem (is it a quick small repair, or a large, very expensive repair?), and maybe even shut off the dud shemesh so we can use the electric boiler if we have to wait to repair it.
Anyhow, because of this craziness I anticipate a lot of time shuttling off to shower outside of our home, and a lot of time waiting around for a plumber. (Just trying to be realistic!) So not much time for shopping.
So who knows how much of this menu I'll stick to! But I'll give it a try. And forgive the question marks, some of my menu depends upon what produce I end up buying this week - but I never know what I'll find when for a great deal!
Sunday
Lunch: vegetable and lentil stew, crackers and chumus
Supper, pancakes, roast potatoes, unstuffed cabbage, and leftover soup with noodles
Monday
Lunch: Sandwiches and cut vegetables
Supper: Baked ziti, steamed kishuim
Tuesday
Lunch: Red Lentil Soup, ???
Supper: Chinese-style vegetable soup, Rice, tuna patties
Wednesday
Lunch: Sandwiches, leftover soup
Supper: Tomato soup, Rice, Red lentil patties, vegetable sticks
Thursday
Lunch: All leftovers from the week
Supper: Pizza, salad, ???

Pantry challenge menu for this week
We are pretty well stocked up at the moment, and I see no reason to go out and buy anything this week - especially with a cold winter storm on the way (with the exception of milk and a few fruits and veggies, which I plan to get today when I'm out (we're out of apples and carrots and down to only 2 bananas!). Although I reserve the right to stock up on something if there is a "can't miss" sale, but I haven't seen that yet, and I don't plan to do much running around...
So, we have plenty of legumes, rice, pasta, and most staples, and we even have a lot of veggies, either fresh or frozen. Here's what I came up with using the things I see I have on hand:
Monday:
Lunch: Pasta with tomato sauce and vegetables, (rice or baked potato for the kids who aren't feeling great)
Supper: Split Pea Soup, baked sweet potatoes, and fresh bread with spreads
Tuesday:
Lunch: Lentil and vegetable stew (leftover from Sunday), sandwiches if anyone wants, using Monday's bread
Supper: Vegetable soup with noodles, Rice, Black bean "burgers"
Wednesday:
Lunch: Split pea soup (leftover from Monday) with some kind of muffins
Supper: Tuna patties with Wakame, roasted potato wedges, salad
Thursday:
Lunch: any and all leftovers
Supper: Eggplant lasagna (I have breaded eggplant in the freezer), baked ziti from the freezer for those who won't eat eggplant, Green Vegetable Soup
For snacks, we have muffins (my freezer is well stocked with muffins), banana cakes galore in the freezer, kiwis I picked up for 2 shekels/kg because they are funny shapes, oranges, and some homemade granola; We also have cakes from the kiddush in the freezer if there's any reason to pull out cake!
I truly hope I don't spend more than 50 shekels this week on groceries! Anyone else feel like doing a pantry challenge this week?

Time to plan again, because without planning I tend to get stuck in a rut. And that is not a place I like to be, and truthfully, my kids and husband hate it when I'm there, and tend to ask for pizza A LOT.
Does that happen to you as well?
So here's the plan:
Lunches will be stews or leftovers from suppers.
Sunday night was Shabbat leftovers
Monday night: Red Lentil Soup, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, carrot and cucumber sticks
Tuesday night: Baked Ziti, Salad, Quick Garlic Breadsticks
Wednesday night: Vegetable-Barley or Mushroom-Barley Soup,
Whole Wheat dinner rolls with spreads
Thursday night: Scrambled eggs, Baked potatoes, cut veggies with dips
This plan is subject to change! It usually gets changed up here and there!

Menu for the week!
Now that the Chagim - Holidays - are behind us, it's time to get back to a normal schedule.
So, first things first, I need to plan my menu for the week, because for some reason, we all get cranky when we don't eat. And Thank G-d my house is more-or-less well stocked with the essentials!
So here's the plan for suppers this week, although veggies are mostly still an unknown, since I need to replenish soon:
Sunday night: Garlic bread, Pasta?, and a big salad
Monday night: Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Tomato Soup with rice
Tuesday night: Red Lentil Soup, Scrambled eggs, Stuffed Baked potatoes
Wednesday night: Black Bean "meatballs" with sweet and sour sauce, Brown Rice, veggies (?)
Thursday night: Homemade Pizza, salad, and french fries (not so healthy, sorry)

Menu Plan for the week!
Last week I didn't plan out my menu very well, so my meals were haphazard and all over the place. Not *such* a terrible thing, especially in the summer, as long as everyone was able to eat! So, despite not planning well, we managed!
But I figured I can do better. So here's the plan for this week (no idea if I will actually stick with it) --
Lunches: Sandwiches, Stuffed baked potatoes, pancakes, and salads
Suppers:
Sunday: Embellished Shabbat Leftovers
Monday: Baked Ziti and salad
Tuesday: Sloppy Sams on homemade dinner rolls (using my favorite bread recipe), salad
Wednesday: Quick pizzas, home-fries, carrot sticks
Thursday: Leftovers from the week
Snacks: fruit (I'll have to keep looking for fruit deals!), popcorn, muffins, granola cookies
Do you like to plan your meals for the week?
I'd love to hear your menu!

Menu planning for the week
Five out of six of us are sick - we seem to have caught a nasty summer cold.
I'm hoping it clears up soon, but with all but the 9 yr old sick, we'll just be eating whatever I have the energy to pull together.
Here are some of the easy-to-prepare foods I've got around:
Pasta with veggies (found that in the freezer)
Other pasta (have about 3 bags of pasta in the house)
Noodle soup left from shabbat
Lentil soup
Split pea soup
Baked potatoes (planning to scrub and bake a whole oven-full of those just as soon as I can get myself into the kitchen, that way they are here and ready to be used whenever)
Scrambled eggs
And whatever else we can manage until I'm feeling less feverish.
Luckily, no one is too hungry and everyone has been fine with tea and toast so far today!
Has anyone else caught this stinkin' summer cold?
How are you all holding up?
p.s. Did you check out my "what I'd bring on my lift" list yet?

Weekly Menu
It's summer, which is the time of year I always get cooking burnout.
(I think I mentioned it recently on this blog, actually!)
In summer, I just want to drink cold drinks, have some ice cream, some watermelon, maybe a granola bar, and call it a day.
But somehow that just doesn't cut it for growing kids, and to be honest, if I keep that up too long, I don't feel so good either.
So we have to cook sometimes... Whenever possible, I plan to cook at night, like the black bean meatballs will have to be made on Tuesday night.
Here's this week's supper plan:
Sunday: Random - Pitot and Spreads, Vegetable lo-mein, and apple-pear crisp with ice cream
Monday: Whatever was left from Shabbat, plus a fresh salad and some steamed broccoli/cauliflower
Tuesday: Roasted Vegetable Gazpacho, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, make your own salad
Wednesday: Rice, Stir-Fried Vegetables, Black bean "meatballs" in sweet and sour sauce
Thursday: Pizza (quick and easy crust!), Steamed Broccoli/Cauliflower, make your own salad
And that should help me keep suppers on track this week! What's your summer cooking look like?

Menu Plan for the Rest of the Week
So far this week has been some roller coaster ride.
Here in Israel, the entire country is anxiously awaiting good news about the 3 boys who were kidnapped. Theoughts of them and prayers for them have taken over much of our time.
In addition, we still have to live regular life. We're in the middle of recital season and summer is starting; excitement is in the air.
And regular life means work, learning, appointments, and paperwork and whatever comes our way -- it all still needs to be dealt with.
And with all that, I never planned my week's meals. And you can tell, as twice so far this week I've ended up picking up packages of pitot, and it's only Monday! Woops.
So now, I'm making a plan.
Tues - lunch - pancakes, scrambled eggs, yogurt and salad
supper - baked ziti (with goat cheese and veggies) and salad
Wed - lunch - sandwiches, carrot sticks, cucumber sticks, etc
supper - rice and stir fried veggies, not sure what else - some of sort of vegetable pancakes with a dipping sauce, perhaps.
Thurs - lunch - leftovers from the week
supper - pizza on quick pizza crusts, salad
Friday - lunch - not sure at all. we'll see if I'm in the mood to cook anything, or if we just go play at the pool, have slushies and snacks...
Shabbat is a "freezer take-out" Shabbat. Gotta make room in the freezer for new things I want to make!
How's your week coming along?

supper - pizza on quick pizza crusts, salad
Friday - lunch - not sure at all. we'll see if I'm in the mood to cook anything, or if we just go play at the pool, have slushies and snacks...
Shabbat is a "freezer take-out" Shabbat. Gotta make room in the freezer for new things I want to make!

Weekly Meals
Somehow, my supplies are beginning to run low!
I'm out of oats, black beans, split peas, and sugar. Almost out of pasta, rice, green lentils, honey, and chick peas.
I wasn't actually planning to do much shopping this week, so I guess we'll be "making do"
One day this week I plan to make some food for a friend who just had a baby, so I'm sure I will end up buying a few supplies to make her a nice meal! (Thinking of making her a lasagna. Or maybe not. I will have to see what I have on hand when I actually get around to cooking! She's a fish-eating vegetarian.)
Here's the plan:
Lunches will be sandwiches and soups and leftovers from supper
Suppers (just listing the main components)
Sunday: Pasta with tomato sauce and veggies and goat cheese
Monday: Whatever is left from Shabbat, supplemented with a fresh potato kugel
Tuesday: Cornbread and Scrambled Eggs (will improvise for the egg allergic daughter)
Wednesday: Baked Potatoes, Something with frozen peas
Thursday: Celebratory post-dance recital meal out ?
Do you plan your weekly menu? Let me know what's on yours this week!

Weekday Suppers

And we've been eating a lot of pasta.
Too much pasta.
So, we had a little family meeting so we could come up with a supper plan for the next 2 weeks (then my mother in law is gracing us with a short visit and I promise it will be a little too crazy around here!).
And without further ado, here's the plan:
Wednesday: Mushroom Barley crock pot stew and fresh rolls with butter/cream cheese, carrot, cucumber and celery sticks with hummus and other dips
Thursday: Pita Pizzas, salad
(Shabbat is a separate post, skipping to Sunday!)
Sunday: Shabbat leftovers
Monday: Pasta of some sort, salad
Tuesday: Felafel!
Wednesday: Omelettes for the egg eaters, fish for the non egg eaters, baked potatoes, salad
Thursday: pitta pizzas, salad
(Shabbat is a separate post)
Sunday: Shabbat leftovers
Monday: Rice, Stir fried veggies, ??
Tuesday: Sloppy Sams with fresh rolls, carrot, cucumber, and celery sticks
And that takes us right up to my mother in law's visit. We'll probably have a really different routine while she's here!
