Weekly Menu

Sunday
Lunch: French Toast, Soup, yogurt, fruit, whatever we found
Supper: pasta alfredo, salad

Monday
Lunch: grilled cheese sandwiches, cucumber slices, split pea soup
Supper: Whatever is left from Shabbat

Tuesday
Lunch: Baked potatoes with cheese, cut veggies, corn muffins
Supper: Tomato-Rice soup, Garlic Bread sticks, Lentil patties, salad

Wednesday
Lunch: More sandwiches, leftover soup
Supper: Pizza, salad

Thursday
Lunch: anything that is left from the week that needs to be used up
Supper: I don't think I can plan that far in advance!!

Well, I tried. I haven't done much shopping, and I imagine if I don't go to the store before Thursday evening, there won't be much left in the house! So Supper on Thursday is kind of dependent upon a shopping trip before that...

Shabbat is almost here!

Shabbat Menu
I am trying to keep it simple. I want everything (except the soup and cholent) to be able to go into the oven at the same time. (But the challot will be baked earlier in the day.)

Homemade Challot
(In case anyone was wondering, I don't do the shlissel challah thing. I have several issues with it, so I don't do it.)
Split Pea Soup/Vegetarian Cholent
Oven-fried Chicken
Roasted Potatoes
Steamed Butternut Squash
Rice (Baked, with roasted garlic)
Salad with whatever I have around
Chocolate Chip Squares

Seudah 3 - challah, peanut butter, jelly, hard boiled eggs, salad, and lemon quick bread. (I'm having the kids do the baking this week, actually!)

What are you making for Shabbat?

Thursday supper plan

I have to confess. I am SERIOUSLY tired. I may have to explain why so no one gets the wrong idea. My allergies have gone crazy this spring, and in an attempt to get through a day and breathe, not wheeze, and not sneeze constantly, and not scratch my skin open, etc, I have had to resort to many, many allergy remedies. And they are making me feel like all I can do is sleep.
Seriously.
So somehow I will drag myself into the kitchen and pull together some supper, despite the fact that I was too tired to go to the supermarket.

Here's our plan for tonight:

Vegetable Broth with noodles (making my soup stock but not cooking it for long, strain, and serve with cooked noodles)
Baked potatoes with sour cream
Make your own salad (if I can get some kids to cut up the vegetables) - we'll throw some feta cheese and nuts into the salad, so we have a little bit of protein.

And that is all.
Please, please, let the allergies clear up, so I can get my head back on.

Great Resource!

In New Jersey, Georgia, and Florida, I participated in some (great) local Freecycling groups. They were such a wonderful resource. I would post things I wanted to give away, and people would come haul my unwanted stuff off, and when other people posted things I wanted, I was often lucky enough to be the recipient of someone else's cast-offs. Not always, mind you. I never managed to be the first to claim the coveted Thomas the Tank Engine wooden train set, or the set of random Legos. Those were rare giveaways. Most often, I got books, kids' clothing, and the occasional toy. I gave away books, clothing, shoes, unwanted mattresses, housewares I was ready to part with... It was a great way to gift my stuff to someone else, and sometimes receive gifts from others, all completely FREE.

Here in Israel, we have a similar resource, called Agora. People post things they want to give away, and anyone can call to inquire if it's still available and arrange a pick up.

Here are some random things I saw posted today on Agora, in the North: TVs, phones, TV stands, pots, charoset, sofa beds, table and chairs, pets (?!), backpacks, babyfood...
Yes, you saw right, someone offered their charoset!!

So, next time you need something, check out Agora. You can search for items being given away in just your region, or even just your city/town.

You just never know when someone else's "trash" will become your treasure!

Amazon UK deals!

I'm from the U.S.A., so usually I shop at the  Amazon US site, if I'm shopping online (this tends to happen when we know someone coming to visit who is willing to bring us things!). Post-Pesach always makes me want to shop online, by the way.

But some of you are from the UK. And you can get great Amazon deals from Amazon UK if it's easier for you to shop there!

Check out the latest deals AND get 10% Off Selected Amazon Warehouse Deals for Amazon UK customers!

I loved using Amazon in the States when I needed to restock my supplies. It's harder now, but we still shop Amazon a few times a year...

I wish Amazon would come to Israel.
Maybe one day.
