Here are some of my favorite tips:

Order only when you can get free shipping, or, if you have to pay for shipping, if the product you're ordering is not available in Israel and you REALLY need it, (but ask around - sometimes shipping can double your cost and then if it IS available in Israel, it may pay to buy it here). Right now, Amazon has a free shipping promo with a $49 purchase of participating items. 

Check for price drops! I save lots of items into my cart and check back later, sometimes the price goes down!

Always check for deals and coupon codes! Click here for your coupon section 

Paying with your Israeli credit card? You may be able to get 10% off on the 10th of the month with code MASTERCARDAY. 

Always check the International Free Shipping section - click here to go to International Free Shipping 

Don't be shy if your order doesn't arrive by the date promised, reach out to Amazon customer service. They'll help make it right! I got a $5 credit last time my order was delayed.

Returns: It's pretty easy to process a return if you need. You just start by opening the Orders section and click the appropriate button. 

Keep your orders under the taxable threshold. Amazon will calculate your taxes, which currently kick in at $150 USD. They also seem to be adding a $6 fee to orders over $100, even though those aren't taxable. If you're buying something that's taxable, shop around a little locally first!

Skirt wearers, you know how it goes - we all need a bunch of comfy, basic skirts that are versatile, classic, and easy to deal with.

I've found that sometimes the Amazon 3-pack deals are the PERFECT solution! Just choose the right size and you're good to go with 3 skirts in different colors!

Getting Travel Ready? Save Some Money!

Shoppers in Israel, and many other non-US locations, this is for you! If you're getting ready to travel, you might have noticed that it's not always easy to find travel size products here. It was always pretty easy in the USA when I lived there (though it's been a while), so I was checking for options from there that ship here.

And guess what? I found that the best deals are bulk deals - so either stock up for several trips at a time, or split this order with a friend or two!

I found these toothbrush/toothpaste packages, or ones that are similar and also have a flosser, and also little mouthwashes! These make traveling easy - I never want to get stuck without a toothbrush, you know?

I found a whole lot of interesting things on Amazon that are priced at $10 or so or less, and qualify for free shipping to Israel with your $49 order.

Other websites don't necessarily calculate taxes at checkout - so it's highly recommended to check carefully so you can avoid surprises. Right now, $75 is about 275 NIS. This can change so check before you checkout!

Do you need a diversion from everything? Sometimes the best thing to do is to give something to someone. I know many people are volunteering in countless ways, but maybe you know someone who will be comforted by a more physical gesture or gift? If so, shopping is your answer!

They are awesome and (I've been told that some people have even been spotted wearing them to class at college.) Things to know about ordering from Israel: Shipping takes time, and lately they seem to be building in a lot of extra delivery time to cover worst-case scenarios, but most packages arrive earlier than the "deliver by" date.

Amazon's prices change frequently but they're really great about letting you know if an item in your cart has changed price - so if you found one and deliberated about it, you'll know if something changed when you decide to complete your purchase. Of course, if you want to lock in the sale price (all the items listed above are DISCOUNTED right now), you should click, add to cart, and buy without waiting!

Sometimes free shipping offers disappear, so please check carefully before you order. Most free shipping offers require a minimum purchase of $49. Just remember - you can avoid VAT and other import fees by staying below the $75 tax threshold for any single order! If you do go over, you will see exactly what you'll pay in taxes at checkout. I only do this if I'm actually buying a product that costs more than $75. And I don't add any other small things to these orders, because once you're over, you're over and you'll pay fees on the entire order.

For smaller purchases, I place separate orders that each total under $75.

If you're in the USA and buying a gift for someone in Israel, please follow those guidelines, too - or be prepared to prepay all taxes and fees. You'll see them before you checkout, so don't worry about surprises. You will need to enter the recipient's ID number at checkout too, so the package can clear customs.

I've got a shopping list for Black Friday - things we planned to buy but were not so urgent that we weren't able to wait for a sale.

So now it seems like a good time to start deciding what I'm actually buying - the sales have begun!

Starting with the clothing requests, my "guys" still prefer American style pants over the more common European style worn here. So I found Pleated khakis in a very wide range of sizes on sale now! Definitely time to stock up.

We're also looking at this Sherpa-lined sweatshirt (these run a bit smaller than expected, in case you were wondering, but proved to be a favorite when I last bought it, so now more people want one!)

Another thing I have to search for is shirts with an Oxford collar. I have managed to buy some at the mall in a bigger city, but the selection was not great. So it's on the online shopping list. 

Wool-blend socks have been great for winters in Israel. If your toes are warm, your whole body is warmer. There are some great deals on kids' socks and adult socks. Get some for everyone!

Ok so I couldn't help but notice this, even though we don't need them. Some Gymboree dresses qualify for free shipping and discounts right now! These dresses last FOREVER. We still see our old Gymboree dresses around the neighborhood on little girls (they seem to go from one family to the next) and my girls are older teens now!

You might be as frustrated as I am with the prices at "tzanua clothing stores" here in Israel, plus sometimes I find the styles, while cute, are not what I'm looking for. But did you know that there are great deals with free shipping to Israel on popular tzanua dresses, shirts, and skirts? And some of these even have coupons you can activate for extra savings!! 

My dancer daughters can't live without these Second Skin bandages! They are amazing protection for sensitive spots in her pointe shoes. 

Another item we routinely buy is Nexcare Blister Prevention Tape. This stuff is great for when you haven't quite broken in your new shoes enough. 

We also buy difficult-to-find items, like Pimple Patches - your teens will love this product! - and soap refills for sensitive skin.

And we've found the most effective and least expensive way to control any pest problems you have in your house is to use this Ant Gel and this Roach Gel. Seriously, a few dots every few months should do the trick.
