Price Controlled Foods (Updated)

I realize it's been a while since I posted an update about price-controlled food items. As you may know, the Ministry of the Economy regulates some food prices in Israel. This means that certain consumer goods cannot be sold for a price higher than the price set by the government. A few prices have even changed since my last post about this, so here's the latest update. Maximum prices on this list were verified on February 14, 2024.

Make sure you're not overpaying for anything on this list:

1. BREADS

Note: The breads on this list are very specific types of breads, and the challah is a very specific kind of challah.

    Note: I've also seen packages of sliced 28% yellow cheese that are pre-packaged, 400g, labeled "price controlled 13.20 ILS"

4. EGGS

A few prices have even changed since my last post about this, so it was time for a new one!

If your store is overcharging for any of these items (check to be sure they are in fact the price-regulated item and not a premium version) - you can report the store to the proper authority using this online form, or by emailing Achifamishar@economy.gov.il

Prices for Price Regulated Foods

It's that time of year again. When we are all trying to recover from summer vacation (when many, many people overspend), and the Holidays are just ahead.

This is a good time to check out the list of price controlled foods, and make sure you're not overpaying for something. Or you could switch from a pricey food to some of these regulated foods for a while, in an effort to save money.

So, here is the updated list of regulated food prices.

The price for eggs sold in other size cartons (18 or 30) would be according to the same scale as above. So, for a carton of 18 Large eggs, the maximum price is 17.18nis

Price Controlled Foods - Updated Prices

The Ministry of Finance announced today that they will be lowering the prices of price controlled dairy products and eggs. The new prices are listed below. As soon as they announce what day these prices will go into effect (sometime this week), I will post an update here!

They are also trying to find a way to add basic fruits and vegetables to the "basket" of price controlled foods. I will update you if this happens!

 

Full list of Price Controlled Groceries

The prices listed below are the MAXIMUM prices for the specified items - in theory, a store can discount it further, if they want to.
If a store is selling price controlled items for a higher price, they are in violation of the law. You can (and should) report these violations!

Here are the items that are supervised, and the maximum price to consumers:

(The prices shown below are for the entire country, excluding Eilat. Eilat is exempt from VAT, so prices there will be lower.)

I'm sure you're familiar with the list of foods that price controlled in this country - for better or for worse, certain products have maximum prices set by the government.

The list includes breads, milk, cheeses, eggs, salt, and more. If you regularly buy these products, it may save you money to buy the "price controlled" version. Usually other non-price controlled versions are sold, as well. Check and decide what works best for your family.

I wanted to let you all know thaton Oct 1, VAT went down 1%, from 18% to 17%, so the legal maximum prices have been updated to reflect that change.

New Prices for Price Controlled Breads

I'm sure you're familiar with the list of foods that price controlled in this country - for better or for worse, certain products have maximum prices set by the government.

The list includes breads, milk, cheeses, eggs, salt, and more

I wanted to let you all know that BREAD prices will be going down.
(It's unclear to me if this is in effect already or not, the articles I've read state the lowered price was approved, but do not state a start date!)

Products:
Challah (500g)  old price: 5.31; new price 5.15, in Eilat 4.36
"Achid" bread (dark), sliced old price: 7.30; new price 7.08, in Eilat 6.00
White bread (sliced) old price: 6.49; new price 6.29, in Eilat 5.50

Expected Price Drop (Milk Products)

New milk prices will be bringing down the price of dairy products in this country in the very near future. Not only will the prices of price controlled dairy be lowered, but other dairy products are also expected to become less expensive. Considering Israelis' love affair with dairy products, this will mean savings in many pockets.

Here are some of the expected changes, which are supposed to go into effect on Wed, July 8, 2015:
