International Museum Day - Free Museums on Lag Baomer!

Lag Ba'Omer, May 3, 2018, is International Museum Day in Israel, and many museums around Israel open to the public for free!


The museums on this list are usually quite pricey for a family to visit, so getting in for free is a great way to learn, experience, and see new things, but I will warn you now - get there early or risk having the doors closed due to overcrowding!

I have tried to list phone numbers and opening hours as accurately as possible. However, I cannot take responsibility for any errors, so please call the museums you plan to visit to verify this information before you go.

I have tried, wherever possible, to link to websites in English. There were some museums/historical sites that only had Hebrew websites, though. My apologies in advance.

Free Attractions for Yom Ha'Atzmaut!

Tuesday, May 2, 2017, is Yom Ha'Atzmaut, and this year, in honor of 69 yrs of the State of Israel, more than 69 attractions around the country will open to the public at no charge.

The list on this page represents many hours of work translating and researching, and I request that if you want to share this information, you link to this blog post. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding. 

Check it out and find a place you've never gone to, and go have fun! In past years we've gone to museums that were free on Yom Haatzmaut, and they was almost completely empty. I think many Israelis prefer their mangal in the park and sitting in traffic. I prefer free admission!

I'm sure there are other places that are offering free programs or free admission, that I haven't heard of, so please add information for other places in the comments, or send a note to ester@kosherfrugal.com and I'll add it in! Thank you.

Free Attractions for Pesach (part 1) - "Mapa U'Matzah"

For Pesach 2017 / 5777 there are a few different initiatives to bring free culture and entertainment to the public. This is really great news, as we know that many of us feel stressed by the regular expenses of the holiday, without even beginning to think about entertainment!

These free sites are sponsored by the Ministry of Cultute and Sport, and the Council for the Conservation of Heritage Sites.

On Chol Hamoed, April 12 and 13, 2017, twelve historic sites will be open to the public, for free, and will offer various activities and presentations. Most of the sites will be open from 10am - 4pm.

I have done my best to translate the information that appears online in Hebrew, and find websites in English for the museums whenever possible.
