Food Recall!
Another case of Salmonella (still awaiting comfirmation), at Telma is the cause of the recall the following products:
Cereal called "Kariyot Nougat" - most or all of which has not been sent to market.
In the event that some was sent out, the recall affects those boxes of cereal (only the Kariyot Nougat) that were produced on production line D with production dates 18/09/16, 19/09/16, and 20/09/16 and expiration dates 13/09/17, 14/09/17, and 15/09/17.
The company says that none of the affected products were sent to market.

Dessert When I've Run out of Time!
Sometimes, especially on short Fridays, I discover it's 20 minutes till Shabbat and I haven't made dessert!
Ok, it's not the end of the world, there's always fruit.
BUT if I can make the whole family happy and pull something together very quickly, why not?
Here's what I need to do this:
2 bars of chocolate
1/2 cup peanut butter (optional)
1.5 cups crisp rice cereal (like rice krispies or B&D pitzputzei orez)
sea salt (optional)
First, melt 2 bars of chocolate (I use double boiler but you can carefully use a microwave, if you prefer).
Then mix in 1/2 peanut butter. Stir with a wooden spoon till smooth.
Add in 1.5 cups crispy rice cereal . Mix, then spread out in a large pan.
Sprinkle sea salt over the top if you like. cool (in fridge or freezer) then cut into squares.
THAT'S IT! You're done, and dessert took no time at all!
My family is always happy with this simple treat!
(You can use crushed pretzel or corn flakes instead of the rice cereal, or combined with the rice cereal for an interesting and delicious twist!)

Breakfast Cereal
Ynet compared the price of cereal across 3 supermarket chains - Rami Levy, Mega, and Shufersal
To be honest, I really don't buy any of these cereals. What this price comparison told me is: Cereal is completely overpriced. People, let's all find a way to enjoy breakfast without buying these amazingly overpriced cereals! Not only do you get less-than-stellar brands, like Kellogs (I'm thinking about their reputation for using GMOs, too much sugar, preservatives, fillers, etc), but you get to pay more per box than I EVER used to pay for healthy, organic cereals!
Let's boycott cereal. For a whole month. I know, those mornings are tough enough. But here are some suggestions: Bake up a huge batch of muffins, enough for a week, and freeze whatever you won't use in the next 24 hrs. Take out muffins for breakfast before you go to sleep at night. Or make oatmeal. You can make oatmeal in your crock pot, and it WILL taste good (2 cups rolled oats + 4.5 - 5 c. water, try it. you can even add dried fruit or some coconut or almond milk to make it a bit different)! It will even keep your kids feeling full for longer than that bowl of cereal ever did. Or serve toast. Or fruit and a hardboiled egg. ANYTHING goes, just not cereal!
Can you tell I am getting fed up with the way we are being constantly overcharged?

We just kind of randomly pulled supper together tonight. It was just too hot to think and I am too stingy frugal to run the A/C, especially now that I can breathe again!
Here's what we pulled together:
Jelly sandwich on whole wheat bread for one picky child
Cereal and milk for another picky child
Whole wheat pasta spirals with tomato sauce
Make-Your-Own-Salad
It wasn't too creative and didn't require a lot of cooking. No one went hungry despite the lack of creativity...
My pantry is starting to look sort of bare. We are left with lots of lentils, rice, and barley, but none of my family members want me to make soups and stews! This will be interesting continuing with the pantry challenge. I just may have to cave and go to the supermarket this week, but I'll try not to. We plan to bake some muffins and corn bread tomorrow. We'll see what else we come up with...

Monday Night, Feb. 21, 2011
I'm feeling a little uninspired about Monday night's dinner menu. My daughter is having a major reflux issue right now; it's really been a couple of years since I've seen her like this. It's so hard to deal with - a little kid in pain from eating (and also from not eating).
The problem is, I really can't think of any food besides cereal that she hasn't complained about lately...
Oh, I guess that means maybe it'll be a breakfast for supper day!
Here's what I'll offer:
Cereal (hot or cold)
Omelettes
Fruit Salad
Bagels (where will we get those!)? - we'll probably end up with those fake Israeli bagels, since I just don't seem myself baking them...
Cream Cheese
Vegetables - sliced thinly for putting on the bagels (reflux girl sometimes like cream cheese and cucumber together, personally I like cream cheese and tomatoes.
