Shopping on Amazon (US) from Israel?

Here are some of my favorite tips:

Order only when you can get free shipping, or, if you have to pay for shipping, if the product you're ordering is not available in Israel and you REALLY need it, (but ask around - sometimes shipping can double your cost and then if it IS available in Israel, it may pay to buy it here). Right now, Amazon has a free shipping promo with a $49 purchase of participating items. 

Check for price drops! I save lots of items into my cart and check back later, sometimes the price goes down!

Always check for deals and coupon codes! Click here for your coupon section 

Paying with your Israeli credit card? You may be able to get 10% off on the 10th of the month with code MASTERCARDAY. 

Always check the International Free Shipping section - click here to go to International Free Shipping 

Don't be shy if your order doesn't arrive by the date promised, reach out to Amazon customer service. They'll help make it right! I got a $5 credit last time my order was delayed.

Returns: It's pretty easy to process a return if you need. You just start by opening the Orders section and click the appropriate button. 

Keep your orders under the taxable threshold. Amazon will calculate your taxes, which currently kick in at $150 USD. They also seem to be adding a $6 fee to orders over $100, even though those aren't taxable. If you're buying something that's taxable, shop around a little locally first!

Allergy survival guide!

I've been managing my allergies a lot better lately, and I'd love to share my finds with you!

Some of these things ship FREE to Israel, and I'm trying to maximize that to help you find a good deal.

I've found that sometimes the Amazon deals are the PERFECT solution to finding what I'm looking for without traveling to multiple cities to check all the malls, AND if we do it right, we can get higher quality items and still save money! And with the new, higher tax free limit, I feel confident that we'll all be able to save more money!

Here are some of the options for dealing with allergies in Israel that I found with free shipping (although sometimes free shipping is limited to a certain size, color, or variation, so be sure to check carefully before you order):

Mattress encasers are super helpful but very expensive locally. Here's another option for you to check out 

Saline rinses are highly recommended to keep airborne allergies from ruining your life 

Consider getting hypoallergenic titanium flex glasses frames online that you can then get lenses for at any local optical store

Hypoallergenic medical tape is a very important household item to keep around if you have sensitive skin

Cetaphil moisturizer is a sensitive skin essential!

Fragrance free laundry detergent - these sheets are so easy to use and completely mess-free

Air purifiers REALLY help - if buying from overseas, make sure it's rated for 220V OR uses a USB cord for the power source. Here's one that's portable and battery powered (recharges using a USB cable)

Lotion tissues are ESSENTIAL! If you're up for ordering A LOT at a time, you can save by ordering from overseas! I compared with Rami Levi's lotion tissue prices and if you take advantage of the "order 2 or more, get 5% off" deal, you'll pay several shekels less per package than what I'm seeing as a standard local price.

Deals I found today!

Sometimes, I go to supermarket websites and only decide to actually place an order if I find a GREAT sale on something that justifies the 30 NIS delivery fee.

Usually, I do this on Saturday nights, but for some reason, today I decided to check, even though it's Thursday.

And that, my friends, is how I found this markdown:

As you can see, the Carmel "Excellence" wines are marked down to 9.90 NIS! You might know that if I buy wine, I really really don't buy expensive wines -- not that I have a problem with anyone who does, it's just not a priority in my budget, so I don't. Anyhow, once I found that wine price and justified my purchase, I looked around for other good prices and placed an order.

I didn't actually find that many super awesome markdowns besides the wine, but here are some of the ones I found:

Small packs of tomato paste, 8 for 7.70 NIS - under 1 NIS! This made me feel nostalgic for the early days of our Aliyah journey, when I routinely found tomato paste for under 1 NIS each...

They also had several vegetables for under 5 NIS/kilo, which is getting harder to find around here.

They also had several fruits for under 4 NIS/kg.

And they had Noam cheese deeply discounted - 10 NIS off the regular price!

Early black Friday clothing deals

I've got a shopping list for Black Friday - things we planned to buy but were not so urgent that we weren't able to wait for a sale.

So now it seems like a good time to start deciding what I'm actually buying - the sales have begun!

Starting with the clothing requests, my "guys" still prefer American style pants over the more common European style worn here. So I found Pleated khakis in a very wide range of sizes on sale now! Definitely time to stock up.

We're also looking at this Sherpa-lined sweatshirt (these run a bit smaller than expected, in case you were wondering, but proved to be a favorite when I last bought it, so now more people want one!)

Another thing I have to search for is shirts with an Oxford collar. I have managed to buy some at the mall in a bigger city, but the selection was not great. So it's on the online shopping list. 

Wool-blend socks have been great for winters in Israel. If your toes are warm, your whole body is warmer. There are some great deals on kids' socks and adult socks. Get some for everyone!

Ok so I couldn't help but notice this, even though we don't need them. Some Gymboree dresses qualify for free shipping and discounts right now! These dresses last FOREVER. We still see our old Gymboree dresses around the neighborhood on little girls (they seem to go from one family to the next) and my girls are older teens now!

It's quite the stressful time here in Israel. And while I feel it's important to stay in the loop, sometimes it's also good to disconnect a bit (keep your phone on so you'll still get Home Front Command alerts) and you know how much I believe in reading books.

If you're looking to get some new books, I wanted to let you know about some options you might not have heard about, with free shipping available to Israel!

Eva's Used Books is a small olim-owned business that ships books within Israel. They don't have a massive inventory, but they do constantly refresh! Definitely check it out.

And if Eva's doesn't have what you're looking for, be sure to check out Blackwell's! On their site, the cost of delivery is included in the price of the books, and they ship from the UK. (I'm hearing from some people that they aren't currently shipping orders to Israel - we'll have to get to the bottom of this!)

The same rules apply for orders from Blackwell's as all other overseas websites - personal imports to Israel under $75 are tax-free. Orders over $75 will incur VAT and possibly other fees. I recommend ordering the equivalent of less than $75 of merchandise from any given website at one time.

I'm seeing lots of items with 11, 12, or 15-day shipping to Israel! Just be sure that when you get that note that your package is on the way you OPEN the SMS and select your pickup location. This way you'll hopefully avoid the hassle of having to get IsraelPost to find your package at a post office 2 hours away from you and reroute it to your local pickup spot. Trust me, I know.

And be careful not to overdo it or your house might get overrun with boxes. Don't ask me if that's ever happened to me. Because I'm not at liberty to say.

But let's just say that I believe the local deliver guys know my name quite well. Oops.

To be fair, I usually don't even order things for myself. It's my family. They ask me to find them the things they need. So I end up placing all the orders. Really, it's true!

You probably know I'm a pretty price-conscious shopper. I really try hard to make my shekels go as far as possible, so I'm a pretty picky shopper. I try to pair great deals with coupon codes (don't forget about the mastercard savings you can get on the 10th of the month) and save as much money on my purchases as possible. 

Here are some great things you might need to set up your home for Pesach -- without overpaying!

Things to know about ordering from Israel: Shipping takes time, but lately, my orders have, for the most part, arrived well ahead of schedule - they seem to be building in a lot of extra delivery time to cover worst-case scenarios, but most packages arrive much faster.

Amazon's prices change frequently but they're really great about letting you know if an item in your cart has changed price - so if you found one and deliberated about it, you'll know if something changed when you decide to complete your purchase.

Sometimes free shipping offers disappear, so please check carefully before you order. Just remember - you can avoid VAT and other import fees by staying below the $75 tax threshold for any single order! If you do go over, as you will if you're buying a computer, you will see exactly what you'll pay in taxes at checkout. I only do this if I'm actually buying a product that costs more than $75.
