Water problems

Today, November 20, 2023, a boil water advisory was announced for the city of Haifa.

In addition, all beaches are closed due to the possibility of contamination from the storm and possible overflow from the sewage system.

Stay safe everyone!

Subsidized Glasses Events this Week!

Residents of Northern Israel - particularly the Haifa area - it's back! Here's another chance to get a really affordable eye exam and glasses.

This week, on Wednesday and Thursday, Sept 6 and 7, 2017, you'll have another chance to get subsidized eye exams and glasses, this time in Kiryat Shmuel (near Haifa). You'll be able to get a pair of glasses (standard frames + standard lenses!) for just 100 shekels, and sunglasses for 50 shekels! Specialty lenses are subsidized on a different scale (multifocals, for example, will cost 600nis and transition lenses for most prescriptions will cost 300nis - still a really awesome deal! My high index lenses cost an extra 200nis, the cost varies by exactly what you need), and some frames are a bit more expensive, but still affordable. There is an option to have this fee or a portion of it waived in case of need. Please send a text to 050-326-7501 to request a waiver BEFORE the event.

The event will take place at the Beit Vaad Kehillat Kiryat Shmuel, at Rechov Mohilever #14, Kiryat Shmuel.

Eye exams are available from 10am - 6pm on both days. If you have glasses already (even old ones - they will help narrow down what you need even if you need an updated prescription) or a prescription for new glasses, please bring them with you to save time.

Please note: Glasses are not made on the spot. You will receive a text message when they are ready to be picked up, at the same place where you order them.

Hope this helps some of you out there! There's been a lot of discussion about the cost of glasses lately.

Be sure not to miss out on more ways to save money - find me on Facebook

Please note: I am not affiliated with the organizations sponsoring this or any similar events. I was not compensated to post this information. I received a press release, and have passed this information on as a public service.

I'm sure there will be similar programs in other towns - please let me know if you know of any!

Free Admission to MadaTech in 2017

--- Retrieved from http://www.kosherfrugal.com/2016/09/free-admission-to-madatech.html ---

Madatech, if you haven't heard of it, is a Science Museum, located in the heart of Haifa. It's a pretty good Science Museum (and we have seen MANY Science Museums in the past 18 years!), and all of my kids (aged 8-17 at the time we went) found things that interested them and kept them busy for our whole day there!

Normally, it's pretty pricey to take a family to Madatech (base price is 340 shekels for a family of 4 according to the website, and each additional child is 50 shekels), so naturally, when we found out it was free on Wednesdays in February and March, we took a day to go. I wholeheartedly recommend you find a way to go too.

And now, Free Admission is back - Get into MadaTech in Haifa for FREE on most Wednesdays in 2017!

The following Wednesdays are excluded (admission is NOT free these days):
April 5 and 12 - Pesach
May 31 Shavuot

June 21 THRU Aug 31 (summer vacation)

Sept 20 - Rosh Hashana

Oct. 4 and 11 (Sukkot)

December 13 and 20 (Chanukah)

In addition, please note that there may be other changes or days the museum is closed. Please check the website or call the museum (04-861-4444) before you go!

This promotion ends December 31, 2017

Opening hours on Wednesday are 10am - 3pm, so plan accordingly!

UPDATE: Tickets are only issued until 2pm, and you cannot get in without one, even though it's free. Be sure to arrive before the ticket counter closes!

**If you can't get in on a Free day, check out this Groupon deal for discount tickets!**
