Mislabeled Cheese

This announcement is from Tnuva:

A small number of containers of 3% fat Gevinah Levana were packaged in containers labeled 5% fat.

The product is safe to consume. The lids of the mispackaged cheeses correctly identify the product as 3% fat Gevinah Levana, even though the cups they are packaged in are labeled 5% fat.

UPDATED PRICES: Price Controlled Foods

New prices for some breads went into effect recently (June, 2015). I decided to republish the entire list with the new bread prices for your convenience.

Here's a quick rundown of what you need to know about government price controls on food in Israel:

The price listed is the MAXIMUM price for the specified item - in theory, a store can discount it further, if they want to.
If a store is selling price controlled items for a higher price, they are in violation of the law. You can (and should) report these violations to the regional supervisor.
Here are the items that are supervised, and the maximum price to consumers:

Another Food Recall (Israel)!

Tnuva and the Health Ministry announced a recall of shredded "Emek" cheese (labeled "Emek P'titim").

The affected product may be contaminated with listeria.

Please check your fridge for Shredded Emek cheese, 500g bags, barcode number 7290004122560, with a use-by date of 20.8.2015.

The recalled product was distributed in the Jerusalem and Southern regions for sale.

Consumers who have purchased this product are advised NOT to use it. Please get in touch with Tnuva with any questions, at 1-800-666-244

While instructions for returning the product were not given in the recall, you should be able to return it to the store where purchased. If you have questions, please call Tnuva.

Allergen Warning (Pecans)!

Due to an irregularity in the packaging process, approximately 100 packages of Gad (brand) cheese may contain undisclosed pecans. These cheeses are being recalled from store shelves.

The affected product is Camembert Cheese (made from Sheep's milk), 25% fat, 125g packages, with barcode # 7290011499334, with a use-by date of 20.6.2015

Anyone with a pecan allergy is advised NOT to consume this product.

Please call customer service at 1-700-50-21-22 to arrange for a refund.

Please share this recall with anyone you know with a tree nut allergy, it could really save a life!

I decided to distract myself by searching for coupons to share with all of you, and I really did not have to look very hard!

Recall (Israel)

"Gad" Dairies announced that certain packages of Pecan Brie Cheese, manufactured by manufacturer code "MKN" and sold by Gad Dairies, with expiration dates of May 20, May 23, and June 19th are being recalled due to e.Coli contamination.

The cheeses are being removed from store shelves, and customers who have purchased this product are asked NOT to consume it.

Please call customer service at 1-700-502-122 to arrange a refund/replacement.

Last year, the Ministry of Finance decided that Badatz milk products are also price regulated products, so stores cannot be charging more for the Badatz-supervised milk, leben, butter, sour cream, and Emek and Gilboa cheese, FYI.

Cheese

I wanted to make pizza, but we needed cheese. It was a busy day and the easiest thing to do was to call my husband and ask HIM to get some.

So he went to Mega. He told me that's where he was going, so I asked him just to get a block of cheapest cheese at the cheese counter - usually that's Gilboa, because it is one of the price controlled items in the supermarket.

Ok, he did.

And then he got home. I pulled out my grater and started grating the cheese by hand. My husband stood there, not quite comprehending, and asked, "why didn't I just have them shred it?"

I told him that a while ago they told me if I wanted it shredded it was going to cost more, I couldn't remember exactly HOW MUCH more - somewhere in the 50 shekel/kg range, so I stopped buying shredded cheese (I have a grater at home, I can shred cheese myself).

Little did I know that I should have reported them, as today Globes reported they are investigating the situation... apparently they are charging 53 shekel/kg for shredded Gilboa cheese, claiming that the price controls are only in effect on Gilboa sold in a block or sliced, but not shredded.

Have you seen this anywhere?
