Today, I decided to put the soup in the crock pot, even though we were home all day. I thought it through and was wondering which one is more cost effective - to cook the soup on the gas stove for an hour or more, or to use the crock pot?
If anyone knows, I'd appreciate the information!
A crock pot takes 4x longer than the stove, but uses less than half the energy. :)
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the blogosphere! My husband saw your blog on the NBN list and said I should check it out. I have a post-aliya food blog - nonrecipe.com.
ReplyDeleteI really think gas is more cost effective than a crock pot. Anything with a heating element uses a lot of energy. In Israel I have two gas tanks and they don't get used very quickly, even though I cook a lot. You may want consider getting a pressure cooker. The new generation of cookers are very safe and easy to use and you can make that soup in 20 minutes with a tiny flame. My friend, Hannah, wrote a post about slow cooker efficiency compare to ovens: http://www.cookingmanager.com/slow-cookers-energy-efficient/
Where do you live?
Thanks for the info, I'll have to check it out! (there were 2 different opinions posted, so I'm not any closer yet to knowing the answer) I have been thinking about investing in a decent pressure cooker, though...
